CITY OF BADGER
COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS
The Badger City Council met in regular session on December 12, 2011 at the Badger City Clerk’s office. Mayor Chris Wendell called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with council members Janelle Wagner, Linda Rodenberg, Teresa Larson-White, and Jim Tjaden. Absent, Melissa Johnson. Citizen Jim Chaney, David and Cody London, Gloria Tjaden, Dennis and Pam Smelser were also in attendance.
Motion by Larson-White second by Rodenberg to approve the agenda, Clerk’s report, minutes as presented and pay all bills as funds become available. Roll call. All ayes. Motion carried.
Motion by Wagner second by Rodenberg to approve class C Beer Permit and Sunday Sales for W&H Cooperative Oil Company (Fastway). Roll call: All ayes. Motion carried.
Motion by Tjaden second by Larson-White to approve the Class C Liquor License with Sunday Sales and Outdoor Services for Knuckleheads. Roll call: All ayes. Motion carried.
The council discussed a citizen’s issue of his neighbor feeding stray cats. They have become a nuisance at there residence by getting into the garage and tearing up lawn furniture. At this time the city may set a live trap in the area.
Mayor and council evaluate city employees every 6 months and Smelser and Clerk Odor were given their written score evaluation to review. No discussion or action taken.
Motion by Wagner second by Larson-White to approve the third reading of Ordinance No. 293. AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BADGER, IOWA, BY AMENDING PROVISIONS PERTAINING TO WATER RATES BY CHANGING THE BASE RATE FOR WATER SERVICE FURNISHED WITHIN THE CITY FROM $5.00 TO $6.00 EFFECTIVE UPON THE THIRD READING. Roll Call: All ayes. Motion carried.
Mayor Wendell read a lengthy statement from Smelser of complaints made about his performance over the past six months, with a lengthy discussion to follow.
Wetzel gave a written report stating the lagoon has been drawn down, all test results are good and water plant is working well.
Clerk Odor stated Mid-American Trees Please program will award the city a $1000 grant in March.
Wagner stated when adding a veterans name to the Veterans Memorial Monument a DD214 form will be required.
Tjaden stated he enjoyed the 25 years working for the city and citizens of Badger and it was a privilege to have worked with eight different mayors.
Mayor Wendell stated the city needs to consider patching or replacing the garage roof on the City Clerk’s office as several shingles are missing. A letter was also received from the Mayor of Randolph to see if the city would be interested in a class action suit against the Post Office. This was discussed before and the city declined. Wendell thanked Tjaden for his years of service as he was helpful to him as a new mayor. He congratulated and welcomed Jim Chaney as the new council member.
Motion by Tjaden second by Larson-White to adjourn. All ayes. Motion Carried. 7:30 p.m.
